"With that additional information, we didn want to see TAHER come in for two years (as per a contract) and have a new director and then turn around and try to bring it in house then it too much transition for the food service program," she said.

"I think, had Debbie not been here, it would have been an easy decision to make four years ago (between contracts), but for the continuity that Debbie brought to the program, and the relationships she had with the staff and administration team Supt. Peggy Flathmann said at a School Board conference meeting where Smolinski came to announce her departure.
Children must register for the programs at St. Philip Church, Redeemer Lutheran Church and Commons Park (at Safety Camp) for safety reasons, and the program sites are open to the community.
"We hoping to get a better return and reinvest in the food service program and kitchen equipment, and just getting the new person up and going," Manders added.

Manders told Sun Newspapers that the district expects to save anywhere from in management, administrative and general costs.
The district has posted the position opening of food service director and plans to bring someone in during the first part of June so that the new director can work with Smolinski to begin the transition.
