Spondon closed the gap to leaders Ockbrook and Borrowash by nine points but remain fifth in the Derbyshire Premier League. Ticknall stay seventh and next week host third placed Swarkestone at The Grange.
Fazal was reintroduced to the attack soon after and immediately took Ikin's off stump, dismissing the 21 year old for 10 as Ticknall looked to settle once more at 151 5.
Ticknall captain Scott Chilman won the toss and elected to field first, perhaps favouring his side's chances in the run chase but any notion of bowling out the visitors was quickly dispelled by the opening pair of Ashdown and Brear.
The Grange and with a slight downpour just prior to 12.30, the start of play was delayed and each innings was reduced to 46 overs.
SPONDON picked up a winning draw over Ticknall courtesy of an outstanding opening wicket stand of 223 from Ben Ashdown and Joshua Brear to keep the pressure on the leading pack in the Beechwood Mazda Derbyshire Premier League.
Surviving a close first ball LBW, Ashdown set about using the slow wicket to his advantage, sending a number of shots to long on for four in the opening few overs off the bowling of Shahid Khan and Derbyshire's Tom Taylor.
Pressure can often get to a 19 year old opener but Brear displayed Nike Metcon Id remarkable patience in attaining his 50, working largely off singles and doubles, before hitting one superb six into an adjoining field to bring up Spondon's 100 and only eight overs later Ashdown did the same to bring up the 150.
Chasing a total of 325 would have been a tough ask for Ticknall in 50 overs and the hosts played their innings defensively, particularly to the impressive pace of Waseem Fazal and Tom Williams.
Rupert Scott Jones's edged to Tittershill in Fazal's next over and with over seven overs to play, Spondon needed only four wickets to secure victory.
Ticknall were bowling to good line and length but got no spin or swing from the pitch and the pacemen were particularly expensive Shahid Khan conceded 97 runs for no wickets over 14 overs, while Edward Ikin conceding 96 for no reward.
Only six points separated the two sides before the match with the hosts Ticknall sitting seventh in the table, two places below Spondon.
Zain Abbas threatened with a superb six to long on off Chris Windmill but tried the same shot to a shorter delivery next ball and found himself caught by Fazal on the boundary.
Borrington was keeping the scorecard ticking but was already walking back to the pavilion when his pull off Ashdown was edged into the air and held by wicket keeper David Tittershill, gone for 30.
Ashdown recorded a personal record innings of 162 not out to help steer his side to 325 2 while Brear played his way to an impressive 86.
From there, Ticknall seemed content to simply bat out their innings settling for the losing draw by protecting the remainder of their order and the home side were 94 1 at drinks, 241 short of the target set by Spondon.

Spondon made full use of the relatively short boundary, finding the gaps in the field to send the ball over the rope by each sight screen Ashdown profited particularly handsomely from this and hit 13 fours and 10 sixes in total.
with Spondon still needing to take nine wickets to win but soon after the break, three key wickets fell and the game turned.
On a wicket offering little assistance to the considerable bowling talents on the field, Ticknall took their innings slowly and got a share of the points, avoiding a late scare and reaching 229 7 by the close.
Fazal and Tittershill combined again to dismiss Tom Taylor for four in the 42nd over but with Shahid Khan keeping his scoring consistent and George Hodson Wallace hitting five fours off the final over, Ticknall were able to see out the innings and took a deserved share of the points.
Left hander Chris Windmill entered and hit two fours before edging a delivery from Bee onto his own wicket with Spondon at 234, allowing Ashdown's brother, Joe, the opportunity to hit a few boundaries of his own, including three sixes in a row off the bowling of Ikin.

The introduction of Charlie Bee into the attack looked to be heading the same way until the former Derbyshire youth teamer finally made the breakthrough in the 38th over, Nike Kyrie Iii Red/Crimson
sending a shorter ball which Brear hit to Zain Abbas in the field.
Fazal seemed to get more out of the wicket than Ticknall's pacers had and gave openers Tom Wood and Paul Borrington plenty of problems, finding a nick off Borrington's bat in his first over but watching the ball fly over Ben Ashdown and to the boundary for four, before trapping Wood but seeing his appeal fall on deaf ears.
First, Luke Harvey was clean bowled by Kashif Hussain for 37, then opener Wood found himself stranded after missing a slow ball from Joe Ashdown, stumped for 33.
