The firm, which was founded in 1973, had outgrown its base in Siddals Road and had been looking for a site on which to construct purpose built premises.
He said: "Pride Park is going to become, in my view, the major centre of commerce and industry in the Derby area in the early part of the next century. It's a logical step for a growing company like DIPT to move there.

Today, Rob, who is chairman of the firm, said: "At the time, we needed more space and we took the decision to move to Pride Park because it wasn't too far away from our old home.

Comments made by Rob a couple of months before the move now have something of a prophetic ring to them.
"I suppose it did look a bit odd with just us there in the expanse of wasteland. We used to refer to the building as the Alamo! But soon after that we started to get some neighbours."
Early aerial shots of DIPT's Pride Park premises make it look a bit like an island in a sea of undeveloped land. But over the following 15 years, all that would change and DIPT had set the ball rolling.
It decided to take the risk and settled on Pride Park as the location for its new million base.

DIPT is still at Pride Park. But in December, 2011, the company moved from its original Riverside Road base to another unit just a couple of hundred metres down the road.
"In hindsight, it was a good thing for Derby, as a city cannot just rely on manufacturing."
According to Rob, the perception at the time was that Pride Park would become a centre for manufacturers and distribution firms rather than the commercial park it is today.
And DIPT was the first business to buy into the Pride Park dream.
"We are proud to be the first on Pride Park. We do believe that sooner or later it will be thriving and we're sure that DIPT will be the first of many success stories at this prestigious site."
At the time, Pride Park was nothing more than a quagmire an expanse of mud, where the only notable features were the imposing gas holders and the decaying Roundhouse.
