"For many years, I performed in a show band playing cover versions of American rock 'n' roll songs," says Eammon, now guitarist and producer with The Dublin Legends, as the remaining performing members of The Dubliners are known.

"Then I got an unexpected call from Munich asking me to come out and join The Dubliners on stage for a couple of nights.
"And then it just carried on from there. They suggested I stay a while longer to tour Holland with them as well and, before I knew it, I was a fully fledged member.
ALTHOUGH Eammon Campbell was a fully fledged member of The Dubliners for more than 25 years, he confesses that music which really fired his soul as a young musician was rock 'n' roll.

music remains too popular to be consigned to CD only and some of the remaining band members re formed as The Dublin Legends last year, committing to more live shows.
Eammon also worked as a session musician and record producer for many years so he says he was no stranger to strumming a few folk chords when the Dubliners invited him to join the band in 1986.
"We played mainly in ballrooms where the audience could dance along, whereas The Dubliners' gigs tended to always be in folk clubs. This was an all Irish bill and I remember it well."
"Having been working in a studio for years it reminded me how much fun it is to play live and watch people enjoying themselves. It's a tremendous feeling to see everyone so happy and singing along."
Eammon has been living in Dublin since the early 1970s and he says that the spirit of the city was captured in many of the band's songs.
"Strangely enough, we did end up playing on the same bill as The Dubliners at one point in the 1960s. It was in a concert hall in Ireland. I don't know how it came about; it was very unusual, even for the time.
The Dubliners' music has also endured incredibly well. The band officially gave their last performance in 2012, their 50th anniversary, retiring with the death of founding member Barney McKenna.
