The foundation worked with local nonprofits in advance of the event to ramp up their websites, and Facebook and Twitter presences to get the word out about their work and the day of fundraising. There were prizes for various categories that the nonprofits could win in addition, with Ferguson Enterprises contributing $30,000 toward the prize pool.

donors and people who were unfamiliar with their cause, according to Peninsula Community Foundation Director of Philanthropy Tammy Flynn.
The Peninsula Community Foundation of Virginia managed the local campaign, which was part of a national day of community giving called Give Local America. More than 100 nonprofits on the Peninsula and Southside participated in the push.
The 24 hour event netted 1,878 donations totaling $160,740 with an additional $28,000 in prize cash grants. Contributions came from all cities in the region, Nike Metcon Blue Glow

The foundation helped local nonprofit organizations boost their donations, donor bases and visibility through the area's first Give Local 757 24 hour online giving campaign.
"The most important objective, other than training the nonprofits to use this platform, was to connect them with new donors by connecting them to the causes they are most passionate about," Flynn said in a press release "We were able to connect more than 400 new donors to new causes. These donors had never donated to any charity previously."
Donations were received from 30 states across the country and one internationally Nike Kyrie 2 White Rainbow from Germany.

Close to $180,000 in donations and prizes were raised for local nonprofit organizations from more than 1,800 donations during the May 6 Give Local 757 fundraiser.

but Hampton had the most gifts with 280.
Winners of the grand prizes were Alternatives, first place, for an award of $7,570; Isle of Wight Academy, second, to earn $4,000; and the Heritage Humane Society, winning $2,000 in third place.
